Cannes, 20 January 2009. Star violinist and UNITEL CLASSICA exclusive artist Julia Fischer was honored with the Midem Classical Award in Cannes. The biggest music fair in the world hailed the musician as the "Instrumental Artist of the Year." Julia Fischer signed an exclusive contract with UNITEL CLASSICA in 2007 for her audiovisual recordings. Among the productions recorded with the artist by UNITEL CLASSICA are the concert given at Frankfurt's Alte Oper (108'), in which she played both Camille Saint-Saëns' Third Violin Concerto as well as Edvard Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor. She was also spotlighted in the documentary "Julia Fischer – Zwei Welten Musik" (2 x 26').Julia Fischer was born in Munich in 1983 and began to play the violin and piano at the age of four. At nine she began her training with noted violin professor Ana Chumachenco. Fischer has been a professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt since 2006 and regularly concertizes with renowned conductors and prestigious orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and the Wiener Symphoniker.The Midem Classical Awards are given to classical productions and artists in 23 categories. The music fair Midem is held every January in Cannes and, with over 4,000 participating firms from 90 countries, is the largest international music trade fair.
