Royals reign supreme: Beta sells record breaking “Maxima” to Atresmedia for Spain

Amsterdam/Munich, 23 April 2024. Beta’s drama Maxima proves that royals still reign supreme. Beta has sold the six-hour series to more than 25 territories, most recently to Atresmedia for Spain, Rai for Italy, RTL for Germany and Warner Bros. Discovery for Latin America. Maxima, produced by Millstreet Films, has broken multiple records during its premiere weekend on RTL Netherland’s streaming service Videoland, among them for best start of a Dutch series. Videoland also reported a record number of new subscribers on the day of the release of Maxima.  

Celebrated with standing ovations at the World Premiere at Canneseries as well as the following Dutch Premiere in Amsterdam, a second season featuring the highly anticipated wedding of Maxima and Crown Prince Willem-Alexander, the coronation, and Maxima’s ongoing struggle caught between family dynamics and her career ambitions was recently greenlit by RTL Netherlands.

Episode 3 of season one will be available on Videoland in the Netherlands on 27 April, the international roll out will follow over the spring and summer.

Máxima is produced by Rachel van Bommel of Millstreet Films, in co-production with FBO and Beta Film, with the support of the Dutch Film Fund Production Incentive, the Creative Europe MEDIA program, and the Belgian Tax Shelter. The series is based on the book 'Máxima Zorreguieta: Motherland' by Marcia Luyten, published by De Bezige Bij.
