Beta’s “Medici: The Magnificent” sold to Sky Germany and numerous territories worldwide
Munich, 17 December 2018. Beta Film has sold Medici: The Magnificent to Sky Germany and numerous territories worldwide. The series,starring Game of Thrones’ Sean Bean and Daniel Sharman (Fear the Walking Dead), will start on Christmas Eve on Sky 1. Running in the US as a Netflix Original, Medici: The Magnificent has recently been sold by Beta Film to broadcasters throughout Europe, among them Canal+ in Poland, Czech TV, Belgium, Greece, as well as to South Korea. Sales to Russia and several other territories are in final negotiations. Universum will release the series in Germany on DVD and Blu-Ray later in 2019. Created by Frank Spotnitz (Man in the High Castle, The X-Files), the second season is currently in production.
Medici: The Magnificent takes us back to Florence in 1469, when young Lorenzo di Medici (Daniel Sharman), his brother Giuliano (Bradley James) and a group of young artists around Sandro Botticelli abandon the cynical politics of the past to usher in a new era of creative and political revolution. This swiftly brings him into conflict with the head of Florence's other powerful banking family, Jacopo Pazzi (Sean Bean), who will stop at nothing to defeat Lorenzo. Their clash gives rise to one of the most thrilling political intrigues in all of history, the infamous Pazzi conspiracy.
The international co-production (16 hours) is produced by Lux Vide in collaboration with Rai Fiction, Altice Group and Big Light. Beta handles the world sales. Directors are Jon Cassar, who directed eight seasons of 24 and was executive producer and director of 24: Legacy and 24: Live Another Day, and Jan Michelini (Un passo dal cielo).
