Professor T. continues European roll-out Beta format gains five million viewers in Germany
Munich, 6 February 2017. The crime series about the brilliant but rather eccentric police psychologist Professor T. continues its roll-out throughout Europe. The remake of the successful Flemish original by Cologne’s Rowboat Film- und Fernsehproduktion gained five million views on Germany’s ZDF. With a market share of almost 17 percent, Professor T. won Saturday night’s second prime time slot against such prestigious formats as the equivalent to “American Idol”. Also, the younger target group tuned in with over eleven percent market share, well above the channel’s average. Professor T. is part of Beta’s extended format slate, which will be presented in spring at MIPTV in Cannes.
Currently, Professor T. investigates in three countries simultaneously: In Belgium, lead actor Koen De Bouw (Amazon’s “The Last Tycoon”) has scored exceptional ratings for two seasons (26 episodes) with more than 40 percent on VRT, France TF 1 (6 hours) expects Zoé Félix (“Welcome to the Land of Sticks”) and up-and-coming talent Mathieu Bisson on the screen later this year. In the meantime, Germany’s Matthias Mattschke (“Grand Budapest Hotel”) is taking the lead as the weird but highly gifted scientist Professor Teerlinck who is teaching criminology at the University and is called upon for help when police investigations get totally stuck.
The Flemish original is produced by Skyline, who have been honored for their international success series “Salamander” with the Jury Award as Best International TV series at the renowned La Rochelle TV Festival.
Professor T. is produced by Sam Davis’ Rowboat Film- und Fernsehproduktion for ZDF. Beta Film is handling the world sales.
