"Babylon Berlin" #1 among foreign series on Sky UK
Munich, 25 November 2017. After its tremendous viewer success in Germany, Babylon Berlin continues to write rating history. The gritty crime series, set in Berlin's Roaring Twenties, celebrates the biggest launch of a foreign-language drama series on Sky UK ever. Final cumulative audience numbers for the first episode, broadcasted on November 5th, were 298.000 viewers.
On Sky Germany, Babylon Berlin broke the one-million-viewer mark at its launch, praised by the media as "masterpiece" (Spiegel online) and "best series ever" (Die Welt). The 16-hours show by X-Filme, ARD Degeto, Sky and Beta Film was highly anticipated in Europe and the US, where it will launch on Netflix next January.
German film fund Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg has already greenlighted the first tranche to support writer/director trio Tom Tykwer, Henk Handloegten and Achim von Borries in the development of the next season. Beta Film has sold Babylon Berlin to 60 territories worldwide, among them the US, Australia, Spain, UK, Italy, France, Russia and Scandinavia. Further deals are being negotiated.
