Beta Film and Red Bull Media House join forces on the first-of-its-kind scripted series project “The Net”
Cannes, 9 April 2018. Beta Film and Red Bull Media House are launching the high-end scripted series project titled The Net. Inspired by true events, The Net is framed around the global phenomenon of football as one of the world’s favourite pastimes, touching the lives of billions across the globe. For the characters in the series, football is not only a dream factory full of luxury, glamour, lifestyle, VIPs and models, but also one of the largest organized crime enterprises in history with bribery, drugs, match fixing, money laundering and even murder.
The Net, based on the concept of Matthias Hartmann & Plinio Bachmann, consists of five stand-alone series each with eight episodes. The show demonstrates a new possibility for international drama production in that individual series can be watched alone or can be discovered as part of the 40-hour interwoven narrative between the five main protagonists. In The Net, the characters can be a hero or a villain, it’s just a question of perspective.
Each of the five series will be developed with local partners and produced in their respective home markets.
Beta Film’s Managing Director Moritz von Kruedener: “The Net is a unique framework of five character-driven, suspenseful series, each of them specific and authentic to its territory, while forming a part of an epic global story. This will be football as it has never been seen it before.”
With Beta Film’s proven success with internationally acclaimed series such as “Babylon Berlin” and Red Bull Media House’s ability to tell stories beyond the ordinary, The Net at its inception, is a series truly made for the digital age.
Negotiations with producers and potential broadcasting partners are on their way. Shooting is scheduled to commence in 2019/2020.
