Germany’s “Professor T.” investigates in the US, Italy and Denmark
Munich, 4 May 2018. Ahead of the premiere of its second season on ZDF, the German ratings hit Professor T. travels throughout Europe and overseas. Beta Film has sold the German remake of the successful Belgian original to the US (MHZ), Italy (RAI) and the Danish public broadcaster DR among others. Professor T., produced by Cologne-based Rowboat, will premiere with new episodes today in German primetime.
The German version of Professor T. scored record ratings on ZDF in its first season with up to five million viewers (17 % market share) and very good ratings in the younger target group. The original Belgian version about the brilliant but rather eccentric psychologist investigating crimes is already in its third season, which will be aired this fall on VRT. The Belgian original celebrated tremendous rating successes in the past with more than 40 % market share and has been sold to numerous territories around the world, among them the US, UK, Australia/New Zealand and Spain. Produced by Skyline (“Salamander”), it has been honoured with the Jury Award as Best International TV Series at the renowned La Rochelle TV Festival. The Professor T.-triple is complete with the French remake produced by Vema, which ran at the beginning of this year on TF1.
Professor T., played in the German version by Matthias Matschke (“Grand Budapest Hotel”), teaches criminology and criminal psychology at the University. On the one hand, he is highly brilliant, but on the other hand he is an arrogant, social incompetent. On top of that, there is his strong need for cleanliness – so on both hands he wears blue gloves. His former student asks him for help to catch a serial rapist. His blunt methods antagonize cops and criminals alike. Working with T. is far from easy, but being interrogated by him is much, much worse.
Professor T. (8xone hour) is produced by Sam Davis’ Rowboat Film- und Fernsehproduktion for ZDF. Beta Film is handling the world sales.
