Broadcast Now: Hudson & Rex heads to Alibi
UKTV is among the European broadcasters to have acquired Canadian procedural police series Hudson & Rex.
The broadcaster has taken the Shaftesbury-produced series for Alibi, with TX set for later this year. UKTV has acquired the first two series of the drama.
Hudson & Rex, which is currently in production for a 16 x 60-minutes third series for Canadian channel Citytv, is set in St. John's, Newfoundland and revolves around the special partnership between detective Charlie Hudson, played by The Killing's John Reardon, and his extraordinary former K9 dog Rex.
From kidnapping, murder and hostage situations to fraud and corruption, the idiosyncratic crime-fighting duo are a force to be reckoned with.
The series is produced by Shaftesbury and Pope Productions in association with Citytv and distributor Beta Film, and is the English-language adaptation of European format, Rex, A Cop's Best Friend.
In addition to UKTV, Beta has sold the show to TV4 in Sweden, TV2 in Denmark and Forta in Spain. Hudson & Rex has sold into 100 countries and territories including Germany, France, the Netherlands, Latin America and Africa with a US broadcaster currently being negotiated.
The series was picked up for UKTV by acquisitions manager Charlie Charalambous.
