Herbert Burkhardt has been out of work for two years. He also has to take care of his eight-year-old daughter. Klaus, his brother, has financial worries of his own. In their distress, the brothers decide to hold up a bank. From a specialist, Hartmann, they obtain the equipment they need to dig a tunnel to the bank building, disguised as sewer men. They have almost reached their goal when they realize that Hartmann, their envious accomplice, is close behind. In a fight with Herbert, Hartmann is fatally injured. Klaus flees, leaving his brother Herbert to an uncertain fate.
