Mission Arctic
By accompanying four Norwegian children on a climate expedition to the North Pole, this series shows that children can make a difference and have a voice that must be heard in the climate debate. This series shows that children can make a difference, and that they have a voice that must be heard in the climate debate. How? By accompanying four Norwegian children on a climate expedition to the North Pole, following in the footsteps of the Norwegian explorer and researcher Fridtjof Nansen. Erika, Johanne, Elias and Johannes have set out on a historical expedition to learn about the climate in the Arctic. Their goal: to ask some very important questions on behalf of their generation. We follow the children through the physical and mental preparations for the North Pole expedition. They met an international research community, and were allowed to join it by taking samples of ice, the ocean and Arctic wildlife. The children had to both break their own boundaries and learn to cooperate with others. Preparing for the ten-day cross-country expedition, they set camp on the Norwegian archipelago Spitsbergen.
With Nansen as their guiding star, they learned from a group of internationally acknowledged researchers on board during this expedition. And finally, they carried scientific equipment to be installed at the North Pole. Based on what the children learned during the North Pole expedition, they travelled to the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris to share their views on climate change with global leaders.
