The House in Karp Lane
Prague, 1939. The Germans have invaded Czechoslovakia. The place: an apartment building in a Jewish neighborhood. The old widow living on the first floor has a stroke after the authorities' having thwart her application for an identity card. Political differences cause her neighbors' marriage's to break up. While one Jewish family is wangling its way to Palestine, another cannot face the fact that their comfortable, upper-middle class way of life has come to an end. Other people, however, are thriving on the change in political circumstances. The girl living on the ground floor finds her first - and at the same time her last - great love among a group of students resisting the German occupation. The group is tracked down and brought before a merciless judge.
