Tricky Business

Winners, losers and those in between

Debt collecting is a job for tough, muscle-bound men who kick down house doors and face down vicious watchdogs, right? Well, meet Kate Christie, every centimeter a woman, and a stunner to boot. She and Rick, her partner in life and work, run the family repossession – or “repo” – business in a beautiful seaside town south of Sydney. Their cases run the gamut from big-time smugglers to small-time insurance cheats, from old flames and old mates with dubious interests to personal crises like when Kate's daughter goes missing... Luckily, Kate has a solid team of helpers like her younger sister Lily and Chad, a beginner who's got lots to learn. Tension rises when Rick's marriage proposal to Kate fizzles; and when he screws up big time in a get-rich-quick scheme, she wants him out of her life. But that's easier said than done... Making matters worse is the new, laid-back repo man Matt, whose interest in Kate is more than professional. Still, the team sticks together, even when things aren't always clear-cut. Sometimes their sympathies lie with the people they're hounding, poor suckers who've lost their bearings or are in a bad spot. With a crumbling economy and growing joblessness, debt collecting has become a more adventurous, more exciting, but always Tricky Business.
