Victor Hugo - Enemy of the State

Victor Hugo, Enemy of the State » is not only a thrilling journey into an amazing period of French History, from the 1848 revolution to the coup d'Etat of Louis Napoleon Bonaparte. This ambitious limited series also leads us into the intimacy of the famous writer, father of Les Misérables as we discover his life as a family man, his stormy lovelife, his doubts, beliefs and political commitment.

In 1848, having published The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Victor Hugo then 46, was already an immensely popular writer. In spite of a wife he loved tenderly, Hugo's fame flung him into the arms of the young actress JULIETTE DROUET who was to become his mistress and confidante. Indeed Hugo couldn't fathom living without Juliette, but he felt the same for the young and lovely LEONIE, his other mistress of seven years, completely unbeknownst to Juliette!
