Mothers were designed to worry about their kids, so when Lisbeth runs off to Italy to save her daughter Fanny from assorted dangers – like Italian men – after Fanny doesn't respond to her umpteenth phone call in two days, it's nothing particularly unusual. At least not for Fanny, who came to Italy partly to be free from her overly anxious and protective mother. After Fanny is forced to introduce her mom to her boyfriend Luca, they set out to meet Luca's mother Carla, a worldly, insufferably stuck-up woman who wants the best for her precious boy – which, in her eyes, is not Fanny. When Luca proposes to his beloved, the two mothers practically fuse into a cruise missile aimed at destroying what Lisbeth sees as a regrettable mistake and Carla as a cataclysmic tragedy. So while Fanny starts finding out who her fiancé really is, the mothers get locked in a villa, lost in the countryside, robbed of their car and put in jail – experiences that lead to bonding or murder. Bonding wins: Lisbeth becomes more self-confident, Carla more bearable, and the two women best of friends. As to the kids, they're working out their problems on their own...
