C21: UKTV takes a trip to the Italian Riviera with Hotel Portofino pick-up

BBC Studios-owned broadcaster UKTV has acquired Italian Riviera set historical drama Hotel Portofino from producers Eagle Eye Drama and Beta Film.

UKTV has picked up the first two 6×60’ of the show, with the inaugural instalment airing on its U and U&DRAMA networks from September 27 at 21.00, having previously been released in the territory via BritBox.

It has also taken the second season premiere rights and will run this later in the year. The deal was brokered by Jimmy Rumble, global acquisitions manager, and overseen by Melanie Rumani, global head of acquisitions, UKTV and BBC Studios, together with Beta’s Andreas Khevenhueller and Oliver N Bachert.

Hotel Portofino was written by Matt Baker and directed by Adam Wimpenny while Jo McGrath and Walter Iuzzolino oversee the production as executive producers. A third series, directed by Jon Jones, is currently airing on PBS in the US.
