“Empathy” and “A Better Man” triumph at Serielizados Fest
Recently greenlit for a second season, Empathy exceeded 10 million views on Canal+ in France within just a few weeks of its premiere. On its home turf, the Crave and Canal+ original was praised by Canadian audiences, skyrocketing to #1 as the most-watched original series across the country. The series celebrated its world premiere at Series Mania, where it won the Audience Award, and was later honoured with Best Series at the Venice TV Awards. The ten-hour series by Florence Longpré offers a unique, sensitive, and offbeat look at the patients and medical staff of a secure psychiatric institute, showing that even in the darkest corners of existence, one can find light.
The multi-awarded four-hour drama A Better Man premiered on NRK on Sunday, November 9, and will launch in Germany titled “Toxic Tom” on ZDFneo and ZDFmediathek on November 18. Praised by international media for “its large relevance” (Variety), the series tells the story of Tom, who works in his mother’s clothing store but spends his nights trolling the internet. At Canneseries, it won Best Series as well as Best Performance for lead actor Anders Baasmo (Kon-Tiki). Created and directed by Thomas Seeberg Torjussen, A Better Man is produced by Maipo Film in collaboration with ARTBOX for NRK, in co-production with ZDFneo.
Beta Film handles international sales for both series.
