ATF: Beta Film acquires worldwide rights to its first Korean drama ‘Snow White Must Die’
Produced by Hidden Sequence for MBC, Snow White Must Die (16x1h) world premiered at Canneseries 2024 and received high critical praise. It was MyDramaList’s “Best Thriller of 2024”, and won multiple honors at the 2024 MBC Drama Awards, including Best Acting (Byun Yo Han), Best New Actor (Lee Ga Sub), Best Supporting Actor (Jo Jae Yoon), Best Supporting Actress (Kim Mi Kyung), and the Best Character Award (Kwon Hae Hyo).
Based on Nele Neuhaus’ bestselling German novel, Snow White Must Die centers on a young man who served ten years in prison for a murder he doesn’t remember committing. Now, he’s determined to clear his name.
When two high school seniors, Boyoung and Daeun, are brutally murdered, all that is found is a warehouse splattered with blood, but their bodies are never discovered. The only suspect is their fellow classmate, Jungwoo, but he was completely intoxicated and blacked out at the time. He is found guilty of murder and serves ten years. Released at the age of 30, Jungwoo braces himself and returns to his home village. However, he is only met with contempt. Shortly after, his mother becomes the victim of a mysterious accident, and while Jungwoo struggles to endure the villagers’ hostilities, the remains of Boyoung are discovered. Now, Jungwoo is determined to find out the truth: What really happened to his friends?
The cast features Byun Yo Han (Six Flying Dragons), Ko Jun (The Fiery Priest), Go Bo-gyeol (Hi Bye, Mama!), and Kim Bo-ra (Touch). The script is written by Seo Joo-yeon (Save Me 2) and directed by Byun Young Joo (Queen Mantis, Helpless).
Beta Film handles international sales and presented the show at Singapore’s ATF market.
