Crime epic “Gomorrah - The Origins” starts international roll out
Gomorrah - The Origins recently premiered on Sky Italia and is available to stream on NOW. It will soon be available on Sky UK. Marco D’Amore, charismatic lead actor of the original series, directed the first four episodes and served as co-writer and artistic supervisor. Francesco Ghiaccio directed the final two episodes. Created by Leonardo Fasoli, Maddalena Ravagli, and Roberto Saviano and executive produced for Cattleya by Riccardo Tozzi and for Sky Studios by Nils Hartmann, the series explores the early years of the Camorra godfather, Don Pietro Savastano.
Gomorrah - The Origins is set in Naples in 1977: Pietro is a tough city kid who grew up in the poorest parts of Secondigliano. He and his friends survive any way they can, riding their mopeds around town, and committing petty theft. But Pietro has a big dream: to become like Angelo 'A Sirena, the neighborhood's “king.” When he manages to get in the graces of the young boss, he finds himself caught in a power game far beyond him. Pietro ends up wondering whether this dark, violent criminal life is really what he wants or if his love for Imma can save him from such a fate.
Produced by Sky Studios and Cattleya, which is part of ITV Studios, Gomorrah - The Origins will continue the impactful legacy of Gomorrah, which set a new standard for European storytelling. Gomorrah is known for its authenticity, shot in the local Neapolitan dialect and on location in the once famous and now deconstructed apartment blocks Vele di Scampia in Naples. Based on the bestseller “Gomorra”, written by Roberto Saviano and published by Arnaldo Mondadori Editore, the original series ran for five seasons and was sold by Beta Film to more than 150 territories worldwide. It has been praised by international audiences and critics alike and won numerous national and international awards. The franchise's success story also includes the feature film The Immortal, which serves as a narrative bridge between seasons four and five of the series. Beta Film is handling the sales for all programs.
