Munich, 18 February 2026. Beta Film has reunited with the Quebec production house Pixcom and secured international distribution rights to the Quebec noir series Northern Traces. The gripping six-hours drama quickly became a hit in Canada upon its start last December: Within less than four weeks, the series rose to #2 on illico+’s most-watched list of 2025 and now stands among the top four shows of the past five years.

Set in a snowbound rural town, Northern Traces (6x1h) centers seasoned Montreal investigator Sergeant Guillaume Pelletier (Danny Gilmore, The Emperor). He’s meant to be off duty and reconnecting with his childhood friend François, whose life has been shaken by a painful separation. But the quiet getaway ends when François’ ex-wife, Céline, is found murdered. Drawn into the investigation, Guillaume partners with Évelyne, a meticulous local police officer, who is calm, intelligent, and more cheerful than he is. Although the victim initially appears to have led an unremarkable life, it soon turns out Céline’s new boyfriend is prone to violent outbursts. When the investigation suddenly takes a shocking turn, Guillaume finds himself in a race against time. He doesn’t realize yet that this case will leave him profoundly changed.
