Munich, 22 September 2026. Beta Film’s highly acclaimed series Empathy was honored with an impressive 14 awards at the Prix Gémeaux, which recognizes outstanding achievements in French-language Canadian television, serving as the local equivalent to the Emmy Awards. The ceremony was held at Montreal’s Place des Arts.

 

Of all awards handed out by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, Empathy took the award for Best Drama Series as well as the Audience Award and the award for “Most Successful Production Abroad”. Creator/star Florence Longpré (Audrey’s Back, Last Summers of the Raspberries) was awarded for her writing, winning Best Screenplay, as well as for her performance, winning Best Actress in a Leading Role. Director Guillaume Lonergan (Audrey’s Back, Can You Hear Me) received the award for Best Directing. Best Supporting Actress went to Brigitte Lafleur (The Five of Us), Benoît Brière (Seducing Doctor Lewis) took home Best Supporting Actor. The series also received awards for Best Costume, Best Casting, Best Editing, Best Sound, Best Original Music, and Best Cinematography.

 

Produced by Trio Orange, the Crave and Canal+ Original series by Florence Longpré takes a unique, sensitive, and quirky look at the patients and medical staff of a secure psychiatric institute. With massive success at home and abroad, Empathy has already received widespread critical acclaim and honors. It premiered at last year’s Series Mania, winning the Audience Award and receiving a 13-minute standing ovation. The series furthermore won Best Series at the Venice TV Awards and was nominated at the Rose D’Or Awards and for Best Non-English-Language Drama Series, as well as the C21 International Drama Awards. It was also among the most successful programs on Crave in Canada in 2025 and has gained audience in France and English-speaking Canada.
