Four paws around the globe: Beta Film sells ‘Rex - Vienna Calling’ worldwide as season two
Beta Film has sealed a deal with SBS in Australia and sold the series across Europe to Rai in Italy, TV 2 in Denmark, Alpha TV in Greece, HRT in Croatia, Planet TV in Slovenia, STVR in Slovakia, Nova in Bulgaria, and TVR in Romania. In the Baltic states, the series will air on Duo Media Networks in Estonia, SIA Tet in Latvia, and LNK in Lithuania. Further sales include Action Channel in Japan and SHANT TV in Armenia, among others. Additional deals are currently under negotiation.
Rex - Vienna Calling stars Maximilian Brückner (War Horse, Cherry Blossoms) as detective Max Steiner. Alongside Rex, his brilliant German Shepherd, they tackle Vienna’s most challenging cases together. With his sharp instincts and remarkable intelligence, Rex is quick to pick up a criminal’s trail, and when danger strikes, he is always there to support his partner. Six new feature-length episodes are currently filming at some of Vienna’s most iconic locations.
The first season of Rex - Vienna Calling exceeded expectations across streaming and linear television. The series reached almost 1.6 million viewers on Germany’s SAT.1 and up to 883,000 viewers on Austria’s ORF this summer. In Italy, it ranked second on Rai 2, attracting more than 750,000 viewers.
Rex is one of the world’s most successful television franchises. Over the past 30 years, the German Shepherd has become a global television phenomenon, inspiring numerous successful local adaptations. Most recently, the Canadian remake Hudson & Rex, one of Beta Film’s long-running hits, was renewed for a tenth season.
Rex - Vienna Calling is produced by MR Film in co-production with SAT.1 and ORF and distributed worldwide by Beta Film. The series is supported by FISAplus, the Austrian Television Fund and the state of Lower Austria.
