'The Rubbish World of Dave Spud' wins the Royal Television Society Programme Award for Best Children’s Programme

The Rubbish World of Dave Spud, from London-based The Illuminated Film Company, has just won the Royal Television Society Programme Award for Best Children’s Programme. The RTS is an educational charity promoting the art and science of television and their Awards aim to recognize programs, which have made a positive contribution to their genre that year.

The show focuses on the no-nonsense, close-knit Spud family and their amazing escapades and around their son Dave, a magnet for disaster, who is a fighter against the odds and an unlikely hero. He knows that no matter how rubbish things get, there is always room for them to get worse – but together with his family, they surely will prevail and be back from their adventures in time for tea.

UK broadcaster CITV has pushed the boundaries of entertainment for children aged 6 to 11. The series  quickly became CITV's third most-watched after-school show with over 226,000 viewers in the first season. A second season was swiftly ordered with an additional 52 episodes being produced.
