Beta Film sells Movistar Plus+ slate around the globe

Munich, 16 February.  Beta has closed a bundle of international sales from its highly successful Movistar Plus+ slate, including deals for the crime drama series Rapa to ProSiebenSat.1’s German private broadcaster Seven. One Entertainment Group, recent Spanish hot seller You Shall Not Lie to Canada’s national public broadcaster Radio-Canada for their online streaming platform ICI Tou.tv Extra, and the dramedy Supernormal to RTP for Portugal, among others.

Rapa, 2022’s most watched show on Movistar Plus+ from the makers of Hierro, was also sold to Streamz for Belgium. The first season follows hometown cop Maite and cranky high school teacher Tomás after their hometown’s mayor is murdered. They become unlikely allies obsessed with solving the case. The duo is back for season two of Rapa, this time investigating two cases in the harbor city Ferrol. In Germany, Rapa will start at the end of 2023 on Sat.1 Emotions.

Streamz also acquired the rights for You Shall Not Lie for Belgium. Pau Freixas’ (Red Band Society) dramatic guessing game of fragile truths and hidden lies in posh, coastal Belmonte is produced by Movistar Plus+ in collaboration with Filmax and has been sold to over 50 territories worldwide so far.

Beta struck several deals for Greece and Cyprus, selling 2022’s Canneseries competition title El Inmortal – Gangs of Madrid to Antenna Group and the dramedy Supernormal to NOVA. Starring multi-awarded Alex Garcia (Morocco, Riot Police), El Inmortal is a deep dive into the single-handed shake-up of the 1990’s post-Franco Madrid. The eight-hour series, produced by Movistar Plus+ and Telemundo Int. Studios in collaboration with DLO Producciones, was also sold to TV3 Group Baltics for Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

Supernormal revolves around the smart, fun, loyal, generous, ambitious, and exhaustingly demanding Patricia, who juggles her private and work life. The 12x30’ comedy is produced by Movistar Plus+ in collaboration with Secuoya and was also picked up Portuguese public broadcaster RTP.

Both series have been greenlit for second seasons after celebrating successful runs on Movistar Plus+.

Warner Bros. Discovery for Latin America and TV3 Group Baltics acquired the rights for the special ops thriller La Unidad (12x1h), with the stand-alone La Unidad Kabul (6x1h) currently in postproduction. Executed by an award-winning creative team, the series is not just the next shot at the task force genre, but a contemporary look at Spain’s National Police antiterrorist unit, with its 3rd season ‘La Unidad Kabul’ in post-production. Dani de la Torre’s 18-hour series is produced by Movistar Plus+ in collaboration with Buendia Estudios.

Beta handles world sales for all series.
