Beta Film/Eagle Eye’s top performing show ‘Patience’ goes global and returns for season 2

From York to the world: Channel 4’s audience favorite Patience rolls out in three continents. Beta sold the detective drama to TV4 for Sweden, Mystery Channel/AXN for Japan, TV2 for Norway, Cosmo for Spain, DR for Denmark, NPO for the Netherlands, YES for Israel, Warner Bros. Discovery New Zealand for their Channel Three for New Zealand and Canal+ for Poland. The series is produced by Eagle Eye Drama. Season one, which aired earlier this year, is Channel 4’s biggest drama of 2025 so far and averaged 4.2 million viewers. Patience will return to the screens with Jessica Hynes (Miss Austen, The Franchise), winner of two BAFTA TV Awards, joining the squad for an extended eight-episode season two.
Jo McGrath, Chief Creative Officer at Eagle Eye Drama says: “We’re so proud of Patience’s success in the UK and the extended recommission is a real testament to the quality of our cast and talented crew, guided by our outstanding director Maarten Moerkerke. Series 2 promises to be even more action packed, culminating with a nail-biting hostage storyline and a shocking family revelation for Patience."
Patience is the latest project in Beta Film’s longstanding collaboration with Eagle Eye Drama. It follows in the footsteps of the highly successful series The Couple Next Door (12x1h) on Channel 4, which became its biggest drama streaming launch ever. Eagle Eye and Beta recently announced the fifth season of the audience success Professor T (30x1h), starring Ben Miller, while the latest cooperation Bookish, led by Primetime Emmy Award winner Mark Gatiss, is currently in post-production.
Patience Evans (Ella Maisy Purvis, A Kind of Spark, Malpractice) continues her work in the police criminal records department of City of York Police. Last season Patience, who is autistic, established herself as an invaluable member of the team – bringing her unique insight to a series of perplexing cases. Love is in the air when Patience starts to date a fellow work colleague Elliot and the police department gets a makeover with the arrival of a new PR consultant. This season Patience will help tackle more intriguing crimes in extraordinary settings including York Minster and the National Railway Museum.
The new season is directed by Maarten Moerkerke (13 Commandments) and Raf Reyntjens (Marie Antoinette). Patience is adapted from the original series Astrid & Raphaëlle produced by JLA Productions for france·tv. Jo McGrath, Alison Kee and Walter Iuzzolino serve as executive producers for Eagle Eye Drama, an ITV Studios company.
Also in series two, we see the return of regular cast members Nathan Welsh (Trying, Am I Being Unreasonable?) as DS Jake Hunter, Mark Benton (Smoggie Queens, Shakespeare and Hathaway) as Calvin Baxter, Adrian Rawlins (Chernobyl, Living) as Douglas Gilmore, Ali Ariaie (The Great, Doctor Who) as DC Will Akbari, Connor Curren (Dodger, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time) as Billy Thompson, Liza Sadovy (A Real Pain, The Rumour) as Dr. Loretta Parsons and Tom Lewis (Gentleman Jack, Redeeming Love) as Elliot Scott.
Patience is produced by Eagle Eye Drama in cooperation with Beta Film, who also handle worldwide distribution, in association with Happy Duck Films and supported by the Belgian Tax Shelter. PBS Distribution holds the North American Rights to Patience.
