C21: Beta Film hires for Turkish expansion
Munich-based producer and distributor Beta Film has hired Sarp Kalfaoğlu as its representative in Istanbul as it looks to expand its work across Turkey and South-East Europe.
Kalfaoğlu joins from Turkish VoD service BluTV, where he rose from producer to head of drama in just under five years.
The Turkish production industry has seen a boom recently, with a growing presence in markets including Latin American telenovelas.
Beta Film recently sold Turkish drama Persona to German SVoD platform Telekom Magenta. The show was also sold to other international buyers, while a deal with a US streamer is said to be in the works.
Beta, which was founded by Jan Mojto, expanded its presence in Scandinavia in March with the purchase of Norwegian prodco Cinenord.
Veronika Kovacova, VP of international sales and acquisitions for Eastern Europe and Turkey at Beta Film, said: "We have been following the Turkish market for quite some time and are impressed by its vividness and creativity.
"Hiring Sarp Kalfaoğlu, an expert of the Turkish industry, reflects our commitment to plough even more into the market in South-East Europe, its premium productions and developments."
