‘Twin Peaks’ star Kyle MacLachlan joins main cast of “Atlantic Crossing”
The main cast of Norway's high-end drama series Atlantic Crossing has been joined by yet another big name. Golden Globe-winning and twice Emmy-nominated Kyle MacLachlan ("Twin Peaks") will star as US President Franklin D. Roosevelt in the World War II drama alongside multi-awarded Swedish actress Sofia Helin ("The Bridge"). The true but untold story centres on Norwegian Crown Princess Märtha, who fled the Nazis and lived in the White House to become an influential figure in world politics.
The eight-hour series from director Alexander Eik is being produced by Cinenord for NRK; coproducer Beta Film handles world sales.
Kyle MacLachlan is a long-time collaborator of David Lynch having made his film debut in "Dune" which was followed by his starring role in the classic film "Blue Velvet"; MacLachlan most recently reprised his most famous role as Agent Dale Cooper in "Twin Peaks: The Return" for which he was once more nominated for a Golden Globe.
Kyle MacLachlan: "To play one of the great American presidents – one of the great leaders of the 20th century - is a dream come true. He refused to be defined by his physical challenges and truly changed the way the American government reacts and responds to its people. He was extraordinary at a time when that's what was needed."
Among MacLachlan's other TV credits are starring roles on HBO's highly successful and multi-awarded comedy series "Sex and The City"; the Emmy-nominated hit series "Desperate Housewives" and the comedy series "Portlandia".
Sofia Helin, Kyle MacLachlan and producer Silje Hopland Eik will present the show at the C21 International Drama Summit at Content London on Wednesday, November 28th.
Atlantic Crossing is set in the US, Britain and Norway, and starts production in the Czech Republic in December. In February filming will move to Norway. Alexander Eik created the series and wrote the script together with Linda May Kallestein.
Inspired by true events, Atlantic Crossing is the incredible story of Norwegian crown princess Märtha, who fights to save her country – and her marriage – offering a unique and never-before-seen perspective on the tragic events of World War II. Märtha is a heroine who rose from her obligations of a caring princess and loving mother to an influential figure in world politics, a popular icon with an important influence on President Roosevelt's decision to enter the war, which was decisive for the victory of democracy over fascism. Her close relationship to FDR will take center stage in the series.
