Broadcast Now: ITV's Professor T picked up in Scandinavia: Beta pre-sells Eagle Eye adaptation to multiple broadcasters
Forthcoming ITV crime series Professor T, the first project from Walter Iuzzolino's Eagle Eye Drama, has pre-sold across Scandinavia.
The six-hour series has been acquired off script by public broadcasters Yle and DR in Finland and Denmark respectively, as well as TV2 in Norway and Sweden's TV4.
Starring Ben Miller (Death in Paradise) and Frances De La Tour (Harry Potter), Professor T follows the story of a criminologist academic who reluctantly agrees to help out the police with a case when asked by his former student, now detective played by Emma Naomi. Miller's Professor Tempest, who battles OCD and his overbearing mother (De La Tour), is taken outside his comfort zone.
It is the debut project for the Channel 4-backed Eagle Eye, which was set up last year by Walter Presents co-founders Iuzzolino, Jo McGrath and Jason Thorp to adapt international dramas. Professor T is a remake of the popular Belgian drama of the same name, which Walter Presents acquired in the UK.
The drama is produced in association with Belgian companies Caviar and De Mensen. It is supported by Screen Flanders and the Belgian tax shelter. Beta Film has international distribution rights for the series and has format rights for the original series.
"Professor T is a phenomenal concept and premise for a crime series, and Ben Miller is the perfect man to bring this smart, eccentric genius to life," said Iuzzolino. "This multi-territory deal means the ITV series will find a home on some of the most prestigious, commercially successful and culturally influential broadcasters across the Nordic countries."
ITV's series is set to start filming, against the backdrop of Cambridge University, later this summer, ahead of a spring TX.
